Naomi Shihab Nye chose Chivas Sandage‘s poem, “Chopping Onions,” as runner-up for the Southern Humanities Review 2017 Auburn Witness Poetry Prize, which includes a cash award and publication. The documentary film about Daniela Gioseffi, Author and Activist: The Daniela Gioseffi Story has been screening with talks by Anton Evangelista, the prize-winning filmmaker, and Daniela, and previewed to rave reviews at the Maya Daren Theater, Manhattan, last year. Tucky Fussell recently published a digital graphic novel called The Gulf, whose wordless images will propel you into a fast-paced mystery traveling from small town New Hampshire to Kuwait.The novel combines drawings with digital manipulations of famous paintings. Mark Pawlak had the pleasure of being a featured reader with Patricia Fragnoli in New Hampshire last mont for her book launch. He read from Reconnaissance: New and Selected Poems and Poetic Journals, his ninth poetry collection. Mark’s essay, “That’s What You Get,” was recently published byFusion magazine. Writer-in-Residence Jonathan Escoffery‘s short story “In Flux,” winner of the 2016 Waasnode Fiction Prize, was just nominated by Passages North for a 2017 Pushcart Prize. With help from WiRs Sarah and Jonathan, Wellspring Director Preston Browning is making steady progress on his book of poems, Sandino’s Grave.
